Aramid Fibers

Aramid, short for “aromatic polyamide,” is a class of synthetic, high-performance fibers. Meta-aramid fibers were first commercially applied in the early 1960s, followed by the development of para-aramid fibers in the subsequent decade. Their unique structure, characterized by polymer chains linked through strong hydrogen bonds, allows them to efficiently transfer mechanical stress.
