Modacrylic fibers are made from resins that are copolymers (combinations) of acrylonitrile and other materials, such as vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride or vinyl bromide. Modacrylic fibers are either dry spun or wet spun.

Modacrylic fibers are inherently flame-resistant, meaning they have intrinsic FR properties. They are commonly used in blends with other FR fibers like lyocell, aramid, or polyamide-imide fibers, resulting in a durable fabric that offers increased comfort without compromising FR protection.

IT creates excellent charring characteristics without melting or dripping when exposed to flame and high temperature. The char forming barrier will work to prevent the flame spread and stop the burning when the flame source is removed. As there is no melting or dripping, it ensures that no potentially dangerous molten droplets are produced which could stick to the skin and cause severe burns such as may occur with polyester or other thermoplastic fibers.
